Recently, I registered for the GDG Buildathon, where we were asked to use Google products to build solutions across any sector like academic, finance, etc. I chose health and built SafeAid, an AI-powered emergency app.
SafeAid is a Progressive Web App (PWA), so you can access it on the web and even install it for offline use which perfect for emergencies when there’s no internet.
The app has two modes:
Emergency Mode (offline) : Think about those panic moments where people forget emergency numbers or panic. SafeAid solves that by putting all critical numbers in one place ambulance, police, fire service, personal contacts you just click a button.
AI Mode (online) : Here’s where AI shines. Using the Gemini API, it offers first aid guidance, a health assistant, and a medical report summarizer. This mode can’t be accessed offline yet and possibly won't be 😂, but it’s designed to help people make smarter decisions in real time.
Now I’m wondering… can AI really become a key solution in emergency care? Can a project like this scale and make a real difference in a community where people don't adapt to new things or innovations easily?
In a community where the first point of an emergency are the people and often times don't often know what to do or what number to call and just resolve to doing what they know (often times not safe)
I’d love to hear your thoughts. What do you think, could AI be the future of emergency response in Uyo ?
