Benjamin Franklin gave us a quiet challenge: live a life worth recording, or write something worth reading. Ideally, do both.
Most of us settle for neither. We scroll, consume, and post, mistaking noise for substance. Yet the people we remember did one of two things. Some built, explored, risked, and failed in ways that made stories inevitable. Others observed the world so sharply that their words made readers see it differently.
The beauty of the advice is its simplicity. If your days feel too ordinary to write about, the fix is not better prose. It is bolder action. Start the project, make the hard call, take the trip, ship the product. Stories follow work.
And if you are already doing meaningful things, write them down. Experience unrecorded fades, while experience shared can teach someone you will never meet.
So ask yourself each evening: did I do something worth writing about today? If not, tomorrow is another draft.
