Dembele, the reigning Ballon d’Or holder, answered his critics with a first half hat trick vs Norway, second fastest in World Cup history. Mbappe has now passed Pele for 2nd on the all time World Cup goal contributions list, sitting one behind Messi, and leads the current Golden Boot race. Olise has 5 assists this tournament, second only to Pele’s in 1970.
Between Dembele defending his crown, Mbappe chasing history, and Olise quietly running the numbers up as the ultimate sidekick, who do you think walks away with the Ballon d’Or if France go all the way? Drop your pick.

Mbappe, easily. Dembele’s hat trick is nice, but Mbappe don pass Pele for 2nd all time in World Cup contributions, one behind Messi, and still leads the Golden Boot race. Voters reward the guy who single handedly drags a team to glory, and that’s my Mbappe! Olise’s assists are cute, but not decisive.
