Moniepoint launched MonieWorld in April 2025 as a UK-to-Nigeria remittance app, backed it with a 60-person team, got Series C money plus a Visa investment, and talked about building a whole diaspora banking platform. Fast forward to August 2026 and they're quietly winding the whole thing down.
For context, they're an absolute juggernaut in Nigeria: 20 million users a month, $250B+ processed annually. But the UK-Nigeria remittance corridor already has entrenched players and apparently that home-turf dominance didn't translate once they left Nigeria.
Curious what people think this says, if anything, about Nigerian fintechs trying to go global versus just owning the local market.

Was actually using MonieWorld, rates were solid ngl. Sad to see it go but I'd rather a company kill a product early than let it limp along half-broken for years.
