Title: ADC names Amaechi as Atiku's running mate as court orders party deregistration

Nigerian politics took another dramatic turn today. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) confirmed former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, shortly after the announcement, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered INEC to deregister ADC alongside four other parties including Accord, Action Alliance (AA), Action Peoples Party (APP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). The court ruled that the affected parties failed to meet constitutional requirements needed to retain their registration.

The case was brought by the National Forum of Former Legislators, which argued that parties that fail to achieve certain electoral performance benchmarks should not remain registered.

The ruling has immediately raised questions about the future of the Atiku-Amaechi ticket and the wider opposition coalition. While appeals are expected, the decision could have major implications for political alignments ahead of 2027.

What do you think? Is this a straightforward application of electoral law, or does it have bigger political consequences for the opposition?
