Damilare Kuku’s book is basically a "how-to" guide on surviving the trenches of Lagos dating. It’s loud, it’s funny, and it’s too real for many sisters who have "collected" from these Lagos boys. If you haven't read it, just know it is a collection of stories that show the different levels of "were" (madness) men display in the Gidi dating pool.

The Gist of the Book

  • The Agbada-Wearing "Demons": You know the ones. They look like a million bucks, smell like expensive cologne, and speak with a smooth accent, but their "wayo" (deceit) level is over 9000.
  • The "Packaging" Culture: In Lagos, a man can rent a Mercedes just to take you on a date, while his house rent is screaming for help. The book exposes how "fake life" is the standard operating procedure for many guys.
  • The "Format" (Scams): From the man who is "married but single" to the one who uses "spiritual vision" to enter your pants, the stories show that these men have more scripts than Nollywood.
  • The Pressure on Women: It also looks at how the society "gives women heat" to marry, which makes some ladies endure "shege" just to answer "Mrs."
