A prime example is the British Empire. In many places it occupied it:
-raised the standard of living
-developed infrastructure
-promoted education

A force for good? For who exactly? How many schools did the British crown build during the colonia era? What infrastructure did it build?
You sound really ignorant, the british built the best of infrastructures and modelled our systems after theirs, we could not even manage them well. I want to assume you are NIgerian. We both share the same colononizer, this should not be news to you.
The British started the construction of railway and roads, they built the best schools around at that time. Current Nigeria is a factor of cultures that we didn't let go and the influence of the western civilization. I can bet it that you don't know much about your culture and you thrive on western way of life.
