Stupid things our lecturers do and get away with

Nigeria teachers: how they behave when they are angry(funny cartoon)
I'm writing this post with so much anger in me. Well, my A is secure, but I'm ranting for those who this irregularity has affected so much.

After weeks of preparation, the D-day finally came to write our Operating System examination. I'm very acquainted with Operating System terminologies and functionalities already, so I just had to cover the mathematics of CPU time scheduling and memory allocation, and of course some other theories that I may not have come across before.

Let me just jump straight into my frustration.

There is an invigilator I'm really keen about. Let's call him Mr. A. The examination atmosphere was intense, and we were deeply concentrating, putting down on paper all that we've learned the whole semester. This lecturer is a very calm person normally, or maybe just the sides of him I've seen.

I had just finished the first section of the exam and was moving into section B. I started writing with so much speed so I could stay ahead of time. Suddenly, Mr. A walked down to me and took my script. I was confused because I wasn't even aware of my environment at that moment. I looked at him with so much confusion, but he just walked to the front and dropped it there.

Joe gestured for me to ask him why he did that, but I was still trying to figure out what I had done to deserve this. I was not even done. Then he went around and collected the scripts of over 20 people. At some point, he started muttering that we were leaving our scripts open for people to copy from. That shocked me even more because I wasn't even aware of anyone around me, and the spacing was sufficient.

After so much grumbling, another invigilator announced that those of us whose scripts had been taken should leave the hall. Anger welled up so much in my heart. I stood up and left, but I waited at the door.

After about 10–15 minutes, and after some other lecturers spoke to him, he finally returned our scripts. By then, some people had already left without finishing. Some people really needed that time to complete their work or at least get something reasonable down.

I went back in and finished my exam. I was happy I did my best, but then it hit me that there are people this situation really messed up for.

That’s why I’m writing this.

Some lecturers go beyond what they are meant to do, and students are the ones who pay the price.

What do you think?
