Anthropic and the Vatican share more than they’d probably admit. Both are institutions convinced they are midwifing something of cosmic significance. Both are surrounded by true believers. Both have a PR problem.
The Vatican has a phrase for it: Magnifica Humanitas. The magnificent humanity. The breathtaking, infuriating, unrepeatable fact of human consciousness and creative fire. It is not a small claim. It is, in fact, the whole product roadmap.
Anthropic read the same brief and said: sure, but what if we ran it on GPUs?
Two institutions. One wager. The magnificent humanity, worth saving, worth studying, worth fine-tuning on a few trillion tokens and seeing what shakes out.
The Pope has not yet commented on Claude’s constitution. We assume he is reviewing it carefully.
